Advanced technology has made treatment and prevention in dentistry much more comfortable for patients and allows dentists to be more thorough and efficient. At DeAngelis Family Dentistry, we utilize a variety of advanced technology to provide the highest quality service to our patients.
Traditionally, periodontal disease was treated with a scaling and planing procedure, also called a deep clean. This was a non-surgical procedure of cleaning the teeth on the surface and below the gum line to remove tartar, plaque, and bacteria to help shrink the periodontal pockets and promote the healthy regeneration of gum tissue. Though effective, this procedure could be uncomfortable. The use of lasers has improved this process.
In periodontal laser therapy, a dental laser is used to access and remove the inflamed gum tissue from around the root of the tooth. The root scaling then begins, which involves scraping off the build-up of plaque and calculus below the gum line and around the root. The dentist then smooths (planes) the root to discourage the future buildup of bacteria that might cause further infections. The use of a laser reduces bleeding, pain, and swelling and shortens recovery and healing times for patients. It also allows the dentist to more precisely target the diseased areas and avoid the need for anesthesia.
Advancements in dental technology, specifically the use of digital equipment, has enabled dentists to provide modern solutions to traditional dental problems to their patients.
The office of DeAngelis Family Dentistry is completely computerized, which means that appointments are more streamlined and efficient, and we offer patient entertainment and education in each room.
